Less than a decade ago, or to be more precise, eight years ago, the U.S had some difficulties when it came to feeding the Olympians. There was infrastructure and difficulties accommodating the number of athletes who would be dining in the village. Some complained about the food not reaching it’s potential. U.S Alpine skier Resi Stiegler compared the food to cat food. He told reporters that even the pasta was horrible. I do wonder how it is possible to make horrible pasta. It is one of the easiest things to make. There was also a case of food poisoning from which many suffered. This was very unacceptable for the Olympics.
Now that we’re in 2014, the feeding of the Olympians is no longer an issue. The U.S has taken matters into their own hands to insure that nutrition doesn’t negatively impact the performances of their athletes.
Now that we know the Olympians are being taken care of let’s see what’s cooking in the kitchen. The U.S Olympic skiers and snowboarders chef is Chef Allen Tran. Chef Allen seems to be cooking up a storm. For the skiers and snowboarders of the U.S Chef Allen has been making great things such as smokehouse almond hummus, almond cheese ball, classic granola, and many more other things for the team enjoy.
As I went over what Chef Allen has been making for the athletes I noticed that most things consists of almonds. So I decided to do a little research on almonds to see what’s so good about them. A quarter cup of almonds contains a lot of nutrients. 49% of it has biotin which boost your metabolism. 40.2% of it has vitamin E which acts as an antioxidant for the body. 26.5% of it has manganese which has many benefits. Some of these benefits include healthy bone structure, bone metabolism, and helping to create essential enzymes for building bones. Almonds has many nutrients and benefits to the body. This shows that Chef Allen is aware of the health of the athletes and cooking healthy food to benefit them.
